The Target On Your Back

Today’s message is named the target on your back. The name might make you think that the target is there because you are a Christian and people are out to persecute you. Well, let me tell you a little story and then we will see what you think.

Somewhere in a church, two women were setting together on the front pew listening to the preacher bring a fiery message about sin. He started off by talking about using liquor in excess and the two women yelled, “Amen pastor, preach the truth.” You see the ladies knew that several members of the congregation worked at breweries or bars.

But when the preacher condemned the sin of gossip, the two ladies sat down and got very quiet. One turned to the other and said, “He’s quit preachn’ and now he’s meddlin’.”

Isn’t that just the way it goes? When the preacher is pointing out the sins we perceive someone else is committing, we call that “preachin’,” but often when he begins to convict us or call us out, we call that “meddlin’.”
